HOSTA - The Company.

The HOSTA world of chocolates and sweets is hallmarked by its diversity and a multitude of success stories. For over 70 years we have been manufacturing sweets in high brand quality. A lot of things have changed since our company was founded. The most important thing, however, is unchanged: our obligation towards our customers and partners to ensure high quality and delicious sweet specialties day by day! HOSTA is traditional, sophisticated – and always up to date.

The 1940s

The 1940s

In 1949 HOSTA was founded by Hermann Opferkuch senior. His first top seller were orange drops which were manufactured with machines ordinarily used by the pharmaceutical industry or tablet production. They were packed into a rucksack and delivered by a motorcyclist.

 

The 1950s

The 1950s

The company expanded and soon grew into an industrial plant. Various production facilities were added, and the product range increased. Nippon in its original form of a bar, Onkel Tom as predecessor of Mr. Tom, peppermint drops, “Erfrischungsstäbchen” (fruity liquid filling in a crunchy chocolate coating), and seasonal goods made of chocolate conquered the markets.

Investments amounting to millions ensured the company’s further expansion. At the end of the decade HOSTA was one of the leading sweets manufacturers in Germany.

 

The 1970s

The 1970s

The coconut chocolate ROMY was introduced, and the Nippon puffed rice got a new shape. These crisp snacks are still popular today.

 

The 1980s

The 1980s

Production halls, warehouses, and operating rooms were extended. At the Stimpfach headquarters a new administration building was opened.

 

The 1990s

The 1990s

Hermann Opferkuch junior took over the management. Four fully automated production plants all over Europe emphasised his commitment to the international orientation of the HOSTA group. In the meantime Mr. Tom is available in 15 countries. A novelty is Mr. Tom Mini, individually wrapped in a multi-pack.

 

The 2000s

The 2000s

More investments in the millions led to a streamlined and modernised production. A Nippon TV spot with a penguin as main character was loved all over Germany.

ROMY as a Summer Edition and the crisp snacks Nippolino have been added to the HOSTA product range. In addition to Mr.Tom Mr.Jim has been put on the market – the peanut bar with melt-in-the-mouth chocolate.

Quality you can taste.

Our long tradition as a manufacturer of brand name products is based largely on the constant quality of all HOSTA products. We use only high quality raw materials and focus on gentle production processes. Our supreme quality authority regarding uniform standards is the HOSTA laboratory management. Even during the manufacturing process continuous quality tests are carried out to ensure that our high quality requirements are always met – and that the taste of our products satisfies our customers’ expectations. All HOSTA products meet the strict requirements of the International Food Standard (IFS).
